How to Prepare for a Retail Store Manager Interview

Last updated:

What to expect

Store manager interviews test four things: your results, how you lead people, how you run operations and your judgment under pressure. Here is how to get ready.

5 steps to prepare

  1. Know your store's numbers.
  2. Prepare 4 or 5 real stories.
  3. Practise your answers out loud.
  4. Visit one of the company's stores.
  5. Prepare 2 questions to ask.

The 5 questions you will almost always get

  1. Tell me about yourself.
  2. Tell me about a time you handled a difficult team member.
  3. How do you drive sales performance with your team?
  4. Tell me about a time you turned around a difficult situation.
  5. Where do you want to be in the next two to three years?

For "Tell me about a time" questions, use STAR: Situation, Task, Action, Result.
